fun night, pics

We saw Hangover, SOOO FUNNY. Go see it! We took some pics before hand.
Enjoy.

Renew

Ah, I feel so refreshed. I went to my "extreme training" class, which totally energized (and exhausted) me. Took a shower and washed with my new Alba cleanser THEN exfoliated and put on some nice moisturizer. Renewed=me. Mirza is bringing over some burrito stuff from his mom. STARVING. We're going to see Hangover at 720.

snacks

Today I feel so lazy. It is like I have hit a wall and have no energy. I woke up and had my usual oatmeal with whole grain peanut/almond butter toast. Cleaned, organized. Then I made a Green Monster consisting of kale, mango, banana, fresh squeezed naval orange juice, flax, and almond butter. I didn't take a picture, sorry (not that anyone reads this stupid blog anyway).
A little later, I needed a snack.
I took a pita and cut it into triangles, brushed it with EVOO, and baked until crispy. I made a "platter" on my plate of hummus, pita, the other half of the orange, walnuts, and prunes.

Plans for the rest of the day? We might see a movie since it is $1 popcorn day.
I definitely want to go to my gym's "extreme training" class at 4:30.

NURSE POCKET

Hey everyone! Today was a busy day, but not terrible by any means. The hospital census is sooo low. That is apparently normal for the summer. I am getting called off tomorrow even! I had 6 rooms, but only 3 of them were full. I only received one new admit on my shift! Insane. Actually, I did take report around 1830 on a patient from med-surg who was completely a unit patient. Actively seizing, continuous eeg, no gag reflex, unresponsive...only 60. Came in with pneumonia, AMS, and VRE! The nurse kept saying over and over how she tried to get the MD to write the order for ICU, but he said no. I told my charge nurse and she worked her magic. Around 1915, she said the patient was going to the unit! I can't imagine having 6 rooms with one patient as critical as that. That is just not safe. I'm happy for the next shift anyway.
My other patients diagnoses included: CHF (dyspnea), pneumonia with MRSA, hypokalemia with acute renal failure, syncope--unwitnessed fall, which turned out to be fractured hip, of course (she was 98 and only like 65 lbs)...

GREAT NEWS TODAY
I got promoted to Clinical Nurse II (CNII)!! It was my ultimate goal before applying for CCIP and I did it! I also will get a 5% raise, which is great because I am getting a 3.5% raise at the end of July based on my yearly. 8.5% raise, I'll take it.

I took some pictures before work today since I realized I have none in my uniform, which is a shame, of course. I don't know why it came out so blue, sorry about that!

So,
I know you're just dying and wondering to know: what does Nurse Nicole carrying around in all her pockets at work? bahaha.

Definitely alcohol swabs! Followed by flushes, alligator clips for the 32423424 times that I need to hook and unhook someone from their IV's, scissors, tape, clicky pens, highlighter, erasable marker, tele calipers (for measuring my ecg strips), and then of course I always have my work phone! I used to keep my brain sheet (ie-cardex with notes) folded and in my pocket, but I found I kept putting it down and losing it or leaving it in a chart accidentally, so now I use a clipboard. It's much more convenient.

Just wanted to add one of my favorite pics for a smile.

sleep

I didn't sleep well at all last night. I just kept waking up. Max of course slept through the night right by my side. Damn him!
I hope today is ok.

Sunday recap

Today has been a kind of lazy day after my "triumphant" bike ride. Since I woke up so early I was pretty tired by noon.
I've mostly just been surfing blogs and relaxing.

I ended up making a little brunch.

Max and I took a nap!

Then I had some stupid chores to take care of, like washing all of my gym clothes for the week, so I won't have any excuses. I also had to iron all of my uniforms for work. We wear royal blue or all white. I didn't feel like washing the one all white uniform I own.

Wow, I'm so domestic.

For dinner I made an Amy's mushroom and olive organic pizza with some kale on the side. I plan to relax with a cup of tea and probably a bath.

The picture of the cat is something my mom bought for me at an antique place. It is kind of creepy, but also cool, don't you think? It was painted in '68. I'm trying to find somewhere to hang it!

What does the agenda for this week look like? Tomorrow I work 12 hours, followed by another 12 hour shift on Tuesday. I then have 3 days off, followed by working the weekend. We don't have anything planned yet for Wed, Thurs, or Fri, but I hope we do because it always helps me to get through work when I have something to look forward to. Not that it is so difficult to get through work or anything, but sometimes I just feel like I'm dragging. I do like my job, but I know my true heart and passion will be in critical care.

I think I'm going to do a post soon regarding all of the things I carry in my pockets at work! haha

EDIT: I just remembered that The Next Food Network star airs tonight on the food network (der) at 9! I'll be dvr-ing it since that is past my bedtime on work nights, but will anyone else be watching?

Sunday bike ride

So this morning I could not sleep. I don't know what it was, but I woke up at 4am and just laid in bed until 5. I finally got up.
I decided once the sun was close to up that I would go on a bike ride.
And so begins the journey...

It started in the bathroom, as most events do...

Don't forget the SPF...(me with no makeup, oh gosh!!)

My used Trek awaits me...

Getting ready to go and a quick check of the time. That is AM, of course.

As I left the parking lot I could not resist a picture of the sky. It just looked gorgeous. The older I get the more I love the morning. In fact, sometimes I wonder if something is wrong with me...I'm 24 and up at 5am on my own accord...I'm not 80!! Geez, anyway...

Finally, I was "off." I live on quite a busy road, so I mostly used the sidewalks, which I know is "wrong," but I've only had my bike for like a week and a half and have yet to purchase a helmet. I mean, I prefer to eat my food solid on pretty plates as opposed to just liquid form through a tube in my gut...got me? Playing it safe for now!!

"Tired and hot"

I made it all the way to Mirza's house!! I imagined everyone inside sleeping all soundly. It made me laugh to myself.

Right before I crashed....kidding.

I love the sunrise!

And finally I made it back home where Max was waiting for me on the balcony, as always...

Another check of the time!

What you didn't see was the black scruff marks all over my legs and arms from carrying that sucker up to the second floor!

It was probably only about 4.5 miles, but still fun and good nonetheless.

Product Review

I've been in the market for a facial scrub that is as close to "natural" as possible. For me, this would include things from nature and as few chemicals (ie-parabens) as possible. As some of you probably know, this is quite tricky. I've never really been one to purchase a lot of cosmetics or facial cleanser type things. In fact, I don't even really wash my face, except when in the shower and it gets wet! I have found the more I mess with my face, the more I get breakouts. I've never really had any issues with acne, just a few pimples here and there growing up.
Like I was saying, I've been on the search for something to exfoliate and get all the dead skin off. I do have quite a few bumps on my forehead that are practically invisible except to me. Price is also an issue. I did not want to spend like $40 on some high end product and then find out I don't like it!!
Since I've been using Alba's Sea Moss Moisturizer with good results, I decided I would stay with this product.

I went back and forth between the Sea moss products and the Alba Hawaiian and eventually decided on this:

The ingredients weren't too wild and the price wasn't crazy either.
I paid a little over $11.00

I just used it in the bathtub and so far, so good.
I can tell you it definitely has a great smell. Tropical. I like it!
The exfoliating beads aren't overwhelming.

I am thinking I will use it a few times a week and see what kind of results I get. Basically, I am looking to even out my skin tone and reduce some of the "invisible" bumps on my forehead.

Anyone have experience with this product?

pool, tennis, cake. not in that order

Today was a blast! First, we went swimming at my apartment complex, which we have never used. So much fun. Then we ate a great dinner and went shopping. He needed new pants. And of course then we had to get some cheesecake.

Later on, we played some tennis.

wee.
